Is it possible... that a team can be so good, that playing regular season NHL games just doesn't get it done for ya ?
I mean, after watching the Red Wings dismantle the Sharks 6-0, I thought to myself, “Dude, what the heck happened here? Where did the 52-point Sharks go?"
Maybe I should have asked myself, "Dude, where did these Wings come from ?"
I have come to the opinion that the deal is, this team just wants to be pushed.
The Red Wings have earned points in 16 of their last 20 games (14-4-2) while the Sharks fell to 5-1-1 in their last seven road games. Many thought before the game that the Red Wings might not have a good chance to win due to the absence of Chris Osgood and his groin injury. Not the case, my friends!
Ty Conklin came in and recorded 24 saves for his sixth NHL shutout. And Pavel Datsyuk was Detroit's offensive star with two goals and two assists. Isn't this exactly what Kenny Holland envisioned from the get go ?
It was a great win overall by the Red Wings. I haven't said that sentence very much this season because of their scratchy defense. The Red Wings currently hold the second-best record in the Western Conference at 21-6-4.
This is a great team, and they're still a favorite to win the cup, but if they continue to fall behind early in some games, that chance of winning a second consecutive cup in June could get a little smaller.
That being said... if they give this effort over 28 games in April and May... they will be riding down Woodward in a parade come June.
