NCAA: The Football Rules Committee wants coaches to debate turning some dead-ball celebration penalties into live-ball fouls, which could result in taking points off the scoreboard. It also approved teams wearing home jerseys to away games. Clock rules were not addressed.

Bob Condotta, Seattle Times: Eastern Washington has been found to have committed major violations from 2003-04 to 2006-07. The violations occurred when current Washington State coach Paul Wulff was the head coach, and at least one of the penalties will follow him to Pullman this fall.

John Adams, Knoxville News-Sentinel: Lane Kiffin: "I like to have fun with some things. The example I can give you is that Steve Spurrier came out the first day I was here and accused me of recruiting without having passed the test [as required by the NCAA]. I didn’t call the [SEC] commissioner whining about it. I just shot back at him, joking around with him. We'll make sure we're aware of how sensitive people are around here."

Brett McMurphy, Tampa Tribune: The magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl is no more. The title sponsor did not extend its naming rights deal past the inaugural game. Officials are scrambling to find a new partner.

Manny Navarro, Miami Herald: Miami announced that it will slash ticket prices with the hope it will draw more fans to Dolphin Stadium. The Hurricanes also announced they will take chartered buses to games at South Florida and Central Florida to cut costs.

Bobbi Roquemore, Dallas Morning News: Nine Southern Methodist players have been notified that their athletic scholarships will not be renewed for the 2009 season and they are no longer part of the team.

George Hostetter, Fresno Bee: Fresno State is wrestling with a financial crisis in the athletic department and layoffs in the athletic department are not out of the question.

John Hunt, Oregonian: Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount, expected to carry the rushing load in 2009, has been suspended indefinitely for "failure to fulfill team obligations."

Jim Moore, Seattle Post-Intelligencer: Maybe Jim Michalczik just came to his senses, deciding to leave as Washington's offensive coordinator after less than two months on the job.

John Moredich, Tucson Citizen: Arizona associate head coach Dana Dimel has accepted a job at Kansas State.
