Pistons fans are not happy with the way the season has gone.

In fact, we here at LSR have been saying since before the season even began that we weren't happy with the way the team was put together, whom the players were and who the coach was.

All that being said, the hot topic de jour is "Should the Pistons consider trading Tayshaun & Rip for Amare ?"

Here is one person's POV on that idea:

PRESENTING AMARE STOUDEMIRE

Amare Stoudemire is 6"10, 249 pounds.  With career averages of 21.0 points and 9.0 rebounds an outing.  Up that to 25.9 and 10.4 in the playoffs.

He is a superstar who the fans voted a starter in this years (his fourth) All-Star Game.  He is only 26 years old.  He has had major reconstructive knee surgery back causing him to miss the 2005-06 season.  But he returned to play all 82 games 06-07 earning a second All Star berth that year.

Stoudemire is compared to a young Karl Malone, Shawn Kemp type of player with unique athleticism for his size.

It is a well known fact that big players with his talent level are hard to come by in the National Basketball Association.

Is he the kind of guy you want to lock down, give him the dollars, and build your franchise around he and Rodney Stuckey (age 22)?

TOUGH TO LOSE

Of course is Rip Hamilton, who has been the teams leading scorer for years.  You would also lose the versatile Tayshaun Prince.  A steady player who is the teams best defender and really the only small forward in Detroit.

Together Rip and Tay average 30 points a game in Detroit.  Plus they have the championship experience, having played in many close games together.

A deal like this would totally dismantle the team '04 team.  But just as the Pistons finally admitted the sell-out streak was over, maybe its time to admit that the overhaul that Joe threatened in the summer was sorely needed.

The team seemed like they didn't care at times over this run.  Tayshaun Prince, although he has stepped up early this year, is the main one who disappears.  While he is very consistent, he tends to get very complacent as well.

Trading Prince would indeed leave a hole at small forward for the Pistons.

The versatile Amare Stoudemire, however, can even play there, alongside Rasheed Wallace and Amir Johnson.  That would give the Pistons quite a different look.  It would also be sure to start another long streak of sell outs at the Palace.

The Pistons have quickly fallen out of the top tier of teams in the league.  Many Pistons fans feel that management is looking to the future, and accepting mediocracy this season.

Dealing for a young franchise player will thrust the Pistons into a new era right now. With a Hall of Famer around to help take the retooled team in a new direction to challenge the league best.

It would be tough parting ways with two longtime pillars of your organization.  But 6'10", 26 year old All-Stars aren't going to be available all the time.

Stuckey and Stoudemire would have a chance to grow into pillars themselves.  Maybe ushering in a new chapter of continued success in the Detroit Piston organization.

With this deal, the Pistons might have a chance to refuel on the fly—and still get better with time.
