We’re going to find out very soon whether Michael Curry can hack it as an NBA coach. NBA coaches have two responsibilities: 1) make sure there is discipline and 2) get out of the way. I’m pretty sure that’s why the majority of NBA coaches get fired for either having an undisciplined team or getting in the way. Right now, Curry is in the way and he needs to do something about it like yesterday. Rip Hamilton went down with a groin injury on December 26th. In his absence the Pistons went 6-2. I have wondered about this Michael Curry experiment from the beginning, I never like it when people hire a guy who is their friend without checking resumes of more qualified candidates. Beyond that it was always a mystery to me how Joe Dumars thought Curry with a whopping one year as an assistant coach was more qualified to lead his team than a man as experience as Flip Saunders. It wasn’t until today, however that I totally gave up all faith in Coach Curry. The reason he lacks the spine to stand by his own comments and to do what is clearly in the best interest of his team if his players object to it.
